Dashing Christmas

Hi guys,

WOWSA! 2 posts in one day! Don't fall over in shock! I'm in the middle of 3 days off so I'm on fire with actually getting some stuff done! I got to participate in another Inkspirations challenge! And they have a new home. You can find them here. I must say I am really happy with this card. I got 'Dasher' al a carte stamp set when the catalogue was released on 1st September and sadly this is the first opportunity I got to use it, Let me tell u your going to be sick of this little guy in a few weeks time! I really love how I have layered him with Season of Joy if I do say so myself. I also used 'Dot, Dot, Dot' for the first time. It was my replacement to 'polka dot' bg that retired in August. I really like 'Dot, Dot, Dot' but am not quite in love with it as much as I was 'polka dot' bg. Anyway you let me know that you think. Here is the sketch to use

Today I have a project to show you using a technique I've been dying to try. It's called the Faux Metal Tin Ceiling Technique. If you click the link it'll take you to a video tutorial but it's so super easy and really effective. All you do is emboss a piece of cardstock (great you scraps and off cuts cos you don't see whats underneath) in silver embossing powder. Then repeat this a second time so it's nice and coated. Run the embossed cardstock through your Big Shot Machine with an embossing folder of your choice (I used Vintage Wallpaper as my Finial Press hasn't arrived yet) and then simply punch the embossed bits out with a square punch. It is quiet delicate to get into your punch so you do have to be careful. I made mine into a Christmas Card using a new colour, Cherry Cobbler. It's absolutely DIVINE!!! Now I bet you wanna see the card?? Here it is... Ain't it fab?

New Catalogue Sneak Peek

Team Weekend Away Swap

Hi guys,

Sorry for my quietness the last few weeks. I have been very busy and also have had a few problems with editting my photos lately. If anyone has any tips on good programs to use for photo editting please let me know.

So what have I been up to? Well Apart from celebrating my birthday last week, Celebrating Karls this week and also having alot of health issues going on I got to go away last weekend on my annual Inklings Team Weekend Away. This year baby free which was lovely. I had a blast creating with some really talented ladies, getting lots of inspirational ideas, lots of laughs, yummy hot chocolates, no cooking or cleaning, and lots and lots of Stampin' Up product! Was heaven! So I have alot to share with you. Firstly I thought I'd share the card I made for my Card in a Box swap. I wanted to do something fun and different and came up with this gorgeous card. What do you think??



I used the reverse masking technique to create the border of whisper white. I then embossed the tree image from 'Lovely as a tree'. I then masked the moon with a post it note. I sponged the inside of the rectangle with sponge daubers in Night of Navy and Bashful Blue ink. I prefer to use sponge daubers to create this look but you could use whatever you like. Ie. Brayer, sponges, etc. I find rubbing your sponge daubers gives a more even colour and stops you from getting circle patterns from the daubers. I like to work from the middle out to blend the colour. And I like to use lots of colour. The more colour you use the better the effect (in my opinion anyway). Fun with embossing

Hi guys,

Sorry for being so quiet over the last week or so. Things have been busy. Over a week ago I had my downlines over for the afternoon for some stamping. I wanted to show them some techniques and other things you can do with embossing rather than just embossing an image. It was also about giving them ideas and tips so they can share these fun techniques with there customers and add them to there next projects. So we made 3 fun cards. Here they are for you.

Card One - Faux Metal

I love doing the faux metal. The technique is all about building layers and layers of embossing. I generally do 6 layers. It gives you a nice thick image to give the illusion of metal but not so thick that it won't fit into a punch. The biggest tip I can give you with this technique is to work quickly. especially at the last layer. When your ding your last layer you want to have your image already inked up on versamark ready to go. As soon as your last layer has all melted you need to put your stamp on straight away and you need to push it down and hold it there for at least 30 seconds. This will give you a nice and clear image. If you don't get the image right the first time you can add more powder and re heat it to get another layer so you don't loose all the layers you just did. Here's a close up of what the technique will look like at the end...



And here's the card we made. Simple put I really like it. Silver and blues work great together and it's a great non traditional Christmas Card too.

Card Two - Embossing Resist

Probably one of my FAVOURITE techniques. It's lots of fun, gets you nice and inky! This technique involves stamping your image randomly in versamark onto whisper white cardstock. Heating it. Then using sponges or daubers sponging on as many or as little colour as desired. I find this technique is great with kids. They love it. Tips for this technique is using lots of colour. The bolder your colour and the more you use the more the your image will stand out. It also works well with a backgound stamp (such as en francias) stamped first and then embossed over the top.

Here's the card we made. Simple and quirky! I used Wild Wasabi cardstock and ink as I am so excited about its return and wanted to give my downlines a sample with it.



Stamp Set: Priceless
Ink: Versamark, Wild Wasabi, Tempting Turquoise, Elegant Eggplant
Cardstock: Elegant Eggplant, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White
Accessories: Heat Tool, Scallop Square, 1 1/2" Square punch, Sponges, Clear embossing powder

Card Three - Cracked Glass

This technique I've never done before but it's so gorgeous and gives your card something different. It's great for vintage style which is very in atm. So this technique again requires lots of layers of embossing. First you stamp your image and have the whole area cut out and ready to go. Then you emboss layers and layers of clear embossing powder. 6 worked quiet well to give it a really good surface. Once it's done you need to cool it down. I found putting it in the freeze for a minute or so gives it enough cold to give it a nice crack. You then need to crack it as little or as much as possible. Give it a rub over with some darker ink (I used Close to Cocoa) to give it a 'worn' look and it should look a little like this....

Christmas Stamp A Stack

Hi guys,

With all the Christmas in July stuff happening I thought now would be a great time to get organised for Christmas so I am starting Christmas Stamp-A-Stacks.

What is a Stamp A Stack? Quick and simple class where participants get to ‘stamp a stack’ of cards in a small amount of time. These cards are usually simpler in design and are great for people of any card making ability. These can be held at my place or yours. Usually make 8-10 cards for $20 but this can be changed to meet needs and time constraints of group needs.

I am holding a Christmas Card Stamp A Stack Class at my place for the next few months leading up to Christmas. The aim is to get all your Christmas Cards made and ready to send out before Christmas rather than cramming them in at the last minute like I often do.
Here are the details of the first one:

When: Friday 30th July 2010
Time: 7pm -9:30pm
Where: My Place in St Marys, Please call 0420 974 200 to confirm your attendance and I will give you my address
Price: $20 for 10 cards, 2 of 5 designs
Please bring your own double sided tape or SNAIL adhesive. Alternatively SNAIL can be purchased from me for $12.95 or $8.50 for a refill.

Any orders placed on the night will have free shipping. Bring along a friend who hasn't attended any of my classes before and get your class half price. Hurry only limited spaces. I will run another one if there is enough interest or get your own group together.

Well I don't know about you but I always have heaps of trouble at Christmas Time finding something to get for some people on my Christmas List who seem to already have everything. I then end up giving them chocolates or a gift card which is a little impersonal. So I thought this year it'd be great to give those people something from the heart. Something handmade. And something they can use. I made a Christmas Stationery Box. Which would be great to give as a gift a month before Christmas as a Getting Read for Christmas Stationery Box. You'll see why...

There is a bunch of Christmas Cards to give out... (I plan on making more but just didn't get the time this week)

Pen Holders - SU Style

Hi everyone!

Happy 2010 to everyone! I hope you are enjoying your year so far! Things have been hectic here and I haven't had time to scratch my nose! It really saddens me that I haven't been blogging as much as I'd like to so I've made a New Years Resolution to actually get my pictures uploaded and blog more often! I love sharing what I do so am resolving (I guess that's how you put it) to blog at least once per week! I really hope that I am able to do this and look forward to sharing my projects with you more often this year.

I know Christmas has passed but I thought I would share some of the things I made this Christmas for my family and friends. Firstly I made some pen holders out of tins from tinned goods! They are so simple to make and look so affective. All you do is cut your DSP to size, Stick it around the tin with double sided tape and then decorate! And how effective do they look??



Here's two of the ones I made using the ski slopes DSP from the Spring Mini. You could easily substitute this for other DSP.

And here is one filled with my favourite products! How lovely do they look? When I gave them out I filled cellophane bags of homemade shortbread biscuits and had them sitting in the tins! Unfortunately at time of taking the photos all the biscuits had been eaten... I wonder who was the culprit... Hmmmm...

Magnet Christmas Calendars

I have been getting busy making and creating more stuff for Christmas including cards, gifts, wrapping paper, bags, etc. I have been making up these super cute Magnetic Calendars using Kaiser Craft wood. They are so simple and quick to make and they are such nice and practical gifts to give to a friend, relative, work colleague, loved one or someone you haven't seen in a while. Here are 2 of the ones I have made recently using Dashing DSP. I have used the same piece of DSP for each just flipped it over to showcase both designs! I have stuck an old fridge magent on the back of them so the calendar can be in the most practical spot in the house! Your fridge!

The one below I have taken a photo of it whilst it is a magnet on the fridge I got given on the weekend. Such a good pick up I think the lady who gave it to me will be getting more than just one of these!

Keesh's Layout Challenge

I'm back from a well deserved break away. Not as long as I would have liked but just some lovely down time. I arrived home to check out what has been happening in blog world only to find a new challenge by Makeesha Byl. If you haven't checked out this women's work please go have a look tell her I sent you! She really is a talent! This week she has posted a layout challenge that I just had to get my hands on. So I sacrificed my nanna nap to give it a whirl and here's one of the things I came up with...

Life Oh Life!

Hi all,

I know it's been a while for me between posts! I am so slack! I must admit though it is all due to somethings that happened earlier this week. It has meant I cannot concentrate on Craft and Stampin and must make some decisions and follow up somethings. I will be back on track shortly but need this time to myself. I will assure you that I am fine and will be ok just need to get through what is going on my own way.

For this reason I need to report that I need to reschedule the class I am due to hold this Sunday. I am sorry to anyone who was looking forward to it as I was also. I have just bumped it back a week. So instead of this Sunday 2nd December it will be NEXT Sunday the 9th November at 2pm. I really hope you can join me on this date as I would like to still have lots of money to donate to Cancer Council.

I really thank you all for understanding these unexpected circumstances!

Anyway on a lighter note I do have some craft project photos for you. Here are photo's of my most recent ATC Swaps. They were Christmas themed and I really wanted to do something a little different. I also thought most people would be using Season of Joy so wanted to steer clear of that set. Here is what I came up with. It is a little different but I really like it and hope you do too.

Here is the individual ATC! I used the Faux Metal Technique to make the snow flake pendant and cracked out my jewelry making stuff to attach it to the ribbon. Here is a close up.

Scrapbooking Challenge

I originally got into craft after my mum started scrapbooking a few years ago. I got into scrapbooking and found it alot of fun but my pages were very basic. I started buying stuff with the intent of scrapbooking but never had photo's printed (I'm sure others can also share a simular predicament) so moved onto card making. My card making started off again very basic and still wasn't all that spectacular until I found Stampin' Up! Since then though I haven't really continued doing much scrapbooking because I still feel my skills are quite basic and can never really come up with any new layouts. I find my pages also take me a very long time to complete because I can't just get an idea and sort of run with it like cardmaking I have to explore absolutly every possibility and then give up after 2 hours and just end up doing something very basic.

The other day when we were given challenges by the lovely Kylie. She set us a challenge to use traditional Christmas colours (Red, Green, Gold (if embossing) and White) to create a card or scrapbook. Usually I would just go the easy option and make a card. I decided that I have heaps of photo's I've been meaning to scrap as a Christmas Pressie to my Boyfriends Brother of his beautiful daughter, Asha, so I should get a headstart on that. This page took me a very long time but I am so happy with how it turned out and it is very different to anything I'd normally do. I got some inspiration for the page from looking at some of the gorgeous pages by Beth Stewart. She has some great work if you ever have time to check her blog out.

Behind the First Picture there is a pullout for some journalling which I haven't written on yet as I want to make sure I put something special on there that really tells the story of the photo's and I think my boyfriend should help with that.

I used flowers from the pretties kit which I coloured in with real red ink and a sponge Dauber. They are so nice and the first time I've used them! I think I'll be using them again!

Challenge Night

Hi All,

During the week we had another challenge night with the demonstrator group that I am apart of, The Inklings. Challenges were set by the lovely Kylie Swain and were all very appropriatly Christmas Themed. I haven't been able to have the chance to complete them all as yet but I have done Challenge 1 which was to make a pocket card but of course make it Christmas themed! These were very quick and easy to make. It was just the decorating that I took more time. Here's what I came up with...



The Mellow moss insert at the back pulls out so you could write a nice message on it or have something hidden in it such as a gift card/voucher. They are great little christmas gifts to give out and the dimensions can easily be changed to suit what you want to make. Below is a close up of the pull out tab and ribbon. I set an jumbo eyelet and then placed a rhinestone brad in the middle. Looks really cute and blings it up a little too!

October Spotlight

I know I promised I'd be post yesterday but I've been busy entertaining my mates from Melbourne! Sorry to anyone that may have been hanging out for this months spotlight. I do highly doubt it though!

This months Spotlight is a stamp set. I decided since it's October now is the best time to start thinking about getting prepared for Christmas. So all month I'm going to show you beautiful projects made with the very gorgeous "Season of Joy" Christmas Stamp Set. This set is featured in the lovely Spring Mini Catalogue (pg 22) for only $51.95. It is a really fresh and versatile set and great for quick and easy Christmas cards.

The following card was made taking inspiration from the lovely Michelle Dyson after the card she had us make as a card in a box on the team weekend away. The colours are really lovely and a great combo together. I will use it again!

I made the snowflake embellishment using a technique called Faux Metal. It is made by applying versamark to a piece of cardstock and then embossing silver powder onto it. I then repreted this process until I had about 4 layers thick of the powder. I then stamped the snowflake image into the versamark onto the embossing layers whilst it was still hot to get the imprint of the stamp. I then finished it off with a blue rhinestone brad. Here's a close up... How pretty is it???

Christmas in July

I attended one of my customers, Vicky, place on Saturday night for a Christmas in July card making night. It was such a great night and it was nice to not be the centre of attention demoing how to make the cards instead sitting and just coming up with something new and seeing other people create different things that I wouldn't have thought of. So thanks for a great night Vicky! We must do it again sometime soon.

Whilst there I made a few Christmas Cards 2 of which I am going to share with you guys. Both use retired products so I do apologise if you like them and would like to make them yourself you may need to substitute some products. It was fun because I also got to play around with some stamp sets I've never used before that my customers had and I'll share those cards with you soon hopefully.

Now onto my creations...The first one I used the same/simular layout that I used on my baby card for Kristina's last colour challenge (Below 2 posts) because I really liked the layout and how it turned out. I used a set called Merry Mini's which actually retired from the last catty. I do apologise. It is a fun set for Christmas cards and tags and that is why I still use it/haven't got rid of it. I hope you like my card.

The second card is using a set I just bought and have been eyeing off for a long time... Hung up on the holidays. I'm so glad I bought the set cos this card is rocking my world. I used Cranberry Crisp Cardstock and Ink which was last years in colours with Mellow Moss. I absolutly love that colour combo and couldn't help but use it again. You could easily change and substitute the colours though if you wished. I also used Nice and Narrow which is a retired stamp set for the small stars in the background. You could leave them off if you wish but I rather like them.

Here is a close up. I used some glitter glue on the balls and hanging ribbon to give it some shine and I also raised the round balls up on dimensionals.
