Team Weekend Away Swap

Hi guys,

Sorry for my quietness the last few weeks. I have been very busy and also have had a few problems with editting my photos lately. If anyone has any tips on good programs to use for photo editting please let me know.

So what have I been up to? Well Apart from celebrating my birthday last week, Celebrating Karls this week and also having alot of health issues going on I got to go away last weekend on my annual Inklings Team Weekend Away. This year baby free which was lovely. I had a blast creating with some really talented ladies, getting lots of inspirational ideas, lots of laughs, yummy hot chocolates, no cooking or cleaning, and lots and lots of Stampin' Up product! Was heaven! So I have alot to share with you. Firstly I thought I'd share the card I made for my Card in a Box swap. I wanted to do something fun and different and came up with this gorgeous card. What do you think??

I used the reverse masking technique to create the border of whisper white. I then embossed the tree image from 'Lovely as a tree'. I then masked the moon with a post it note. I sponged the inside of the rectangle with sponge daubers in Night of Navy and Bashful Blue ink. I prefer to use sponge daubers to create this look but you could use whatever you like. Ie. Brayer, sponges, etc. I find rubbing your sponge daubers gives a more even colour and stops you from getting circle patterns from the daubers. I like to work from the middle out to blend the colour. And I like to use lots of colour. The more colour you use the better the effect (in my opinion anyway). If you would like anymore details on this card or would like me to do a tutorial please comment and let me know.

Stamp Set: Lovely as a Tree, Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Ink: Bashful Blue, Night of Navy, Versamark
Cardstock: Whisper White, Night of Navy, Bashful Blue
Accessories: SAMJ, Clear Embossing Powder, Embossing Buddy, Heat Tool, 1 3/8" punch, Bashful Blue grosgrain ribbon, mini glue dots

Thanks for looking, Please come back soon to see what else I made over the weekend and get a peak at some new stuff from the new catalogue

Fun with embossing

Hi guys,

Sorry for being so quiet over the last week or so. Things have been busy. Over a week ago I had my downlines over for the afternoon for some stamping. I wanted to show them some techniques and other things you can do with embossing rather than just embossing an image. It was also about giving them ideas and tips so they can share these fun techniques with there customers and add them to there next projects. So we made 3 fun cards. Here they are for you.

Card One - Faux Metal

I love doing the faux metal. The technique is all about building layers and layers of embossing. I generally do 6 layers. It gives you a nice thick image to give the illusion of metal but not so thick that it won't fit into a punch. The biggest tip I can give you with this technique is to work quickly. especially at the last layer. When your ding your last layer you want to have your image already inked up on versamark ready to go. As soon as your last layer has all melted you need to put your stamp on straight away and you need to push it down and hold it there for at least 30 seconds. This will give you a nice and clear image. If you don't get the image right the first time you can add more powder and re heat it to get another layer so you don't loose all the layers you just did. Here's a close up of what the technique will look like at the end...

And here's the card we made. Simple put I really like it. Silver and blues work great together and it's a great non traditional Christmas Card too.

Stamp Set: Season of Joy
Ink: Versamark
Cardstock: Night of Navy, Baja Breeze
Accessories: Heat Tool, Silver Embossing Powder, Big Shot, Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder, 1 1/2" 1 3/8" Circle Punches, Scallop Circle Punch

Card Two - Embossing Resist

Probably one of my FAVOURITE techniques. It's lots of fun, gets you nice and inky! This technique involves stamping your image randomly in versamark onto whisper white cardstock. Heating it. Then using sponges or daubers sponging on as many or as little colour as desired. I find this technique is great with kids. They love it. Tips for this technique is using lots of colour. The bolder your colour and the more you use the more the your image will stand out. It also works well with a backgound stamp (such as en francias) stamped first and then embossed over the top.

Here's the card we made. Simple and quirky! I used Wild Wasabi cardstock and ink as I am so excited about its return and wanted to give my downlines a sample with it.

Stamp Set: Priceless
Ink: Versamark, Wild Wasabi, Tempting Turquoise, Elegant Eggplant
Cardstock: Elegant Eggplant, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White
Accessories: Heat Tool, Scallop Square, 1 1/2" Square punch, Sponges, Clear embossing powder

Card Three - Cracked Glass

This technique I've never done before but it's so gorgeous and gives your card something different. It's great for vintage style which is very in atm. So this technique again requires lots of layers of embossing. First you stamp your image and have the whole area cut out and ready to go. Then you emboss layers and layers of clear embossing powder. 6 worked quiet well to give it a really good surface. Once it's done you need to cool it down. I found putting it in the freeze for a minute or so gives it enough cold to give it a nice crack. You then need to crack it as little or as much as possible. Give it a rub over with some darker ink (I used Close to Cocoa) to give it a 'worn' look and it should look a little like this....

And the final card...

Stamp Set: Upsy Daisy, Sanded BG
Ink: Rose Red, Close to Cocoa, Rose Red, Always Artichoke and Regal Rose Stampin' Write Markers
Cardstock: Always Artichoke, Rose Red, Regal Rose, Whisper White
Accessories: Heat Tool, Clear embossing powder, Sponge Dauber, Dimensionals, Hemp Twine, Always Artichoke Brads

Thanks for looking and I hope I've inspired you to use your embossing powder in a different way next time you pull it out!

Inkspirations Challenge #31

Hi guys,

As I stated the other day when I saw this sketch I had another idea I wanted to try. Now I must say I'm not 100% happy with the outcome but still thought the card was cute so I thought I'd share it anyway. Here is the sketch we had to work with...

My team are currently doing a swap using the technique "suspension cards." As I have only ever made one of these before I thought this sketch gave me the perfect opportunity to practice. I am glad I did because there is alot of tweaking that needs to be done before I am 100% happy with it. This card also took alot of work because I haven't replaced all the punches I lost when my stuff was stolen so I cut all the squares for this card with my cutter and not a punch or big shot dye!

Here's the card...

The suspended "bugs and kisses" square spins to reveal a picture on the other side. Here is the card with the other side of the suspension

Too cute huh??? Here's a close up of the suspension mid twist.

Stamp Set: Bugs and Kisses
Ink: Old Olive, Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red
Cardstock: Whisper White, Riding Hood Red, Baja Breeze, Old Olive, Tangerine Tango, Summer Picnic DSP*
Accessories: Dental Floss, Sticky Strip, Scallop Edge Punch, Tangerine Tango Ribbon, SAMJ, Paper Cutter

Baby Wipe Pizzazz

Hi guys,

Now I have a ripper of a card for you today. I started working on it on Friday and finally finished it today. I originally started with the latest Inkspirations sketch, This week being hosted by Cindy from the DT. She also gave us an extra challenge of using something you've been hoarding for a while. Here's this weeks sketch...

With that in mind I also felt like getting my fingers inky so I grabbed my re-inkers and headed to one of Stampin' buddies places. I combined our small stash of reinkers to stamp using the baby wipe technique. This technique can be used SO many ways and always has a beautiful and individual effect. I stamped using Petal Pizzazz and here's a close up of how my flowers turned out.

Doesn't it just give those flowers and leaves a little 'pop' and an extra something special? I'm so happy with this effect that u just may see it more often.

Then I decided to use Wonderful Favourites set for a sentiment in the circle. This set is so great and really versatile. I would also check back here in a few days for an upcoming special involving this set. Again being in the mood for something different I decided to use the Rock n Roll Technique to stamp my sentiment. Is a close up of how it turned out

With all these elements combined I added a few other bits and pieces like some scrunched ribbon which is really popular at the moment, some DSP (What card would be complete without DSP?) and some dimension and here's the final result...

Stamp Set: Wonderful Favourites, Petal Pizzazz
Cardstock: Pacific Point, Baja Breeze, Gloss White, Summer Picnic DSP
Ink: Baha Breeze, Pacific Point
Reinkers: Baha Breeze, Pacific Point, Bashful Blue, Old Olive, Kiwi Kiss
Accessories: Circle Scissors Plus, Pacific Point Ribbon, Scallop Edge Punch, Dimensionals, Stamp-a-ma-jig

Isn't it pretty? I'm really happy with how it turned out. Now the thing I've been hoarding is the DSP I used it the background. It is Summer Picinic DSP from the Summer Mini in 2008! Yep I'm definatly a hoarder! I also entered this card for Just Add Ink's current challenge which was Just Add Printed Paper (DSP).

Happy 1st Birthday Grace

Hi guys,

One of the babies, Grace, from my mum's group turns 1 today! I can't believe how quickly this year has flown. It seems like only yesterday I was all nervous to meet these people and now they are all really great friends. Since it's her 1st birthday I thought it was only appropriate to make her a gorgeous card. I used the current Just Add Ink sketch. I've been wanting to join in on one of there challenges for weeks now so it was great to finally have the opportunity. Here's the sketch.

This card I made I feel has been inspired alot by Teneale Williams. If you haven't checked out her blog before, what rock have you been living under? She is super talented! Go have a look! I have used her 'Faux Bow' technique to get the worlds most perfect bow. She has a video technique on how to do them which can be found here. I think mine needs a little more work to live up to the master but I am very happy with it. I also cased a few things from other cards she has done but put my own little spins on it too. I must say I am quiet happy with the end result

Stamp Sets: Fox and Friends, Teeny Tiny Sentiments, Sanded BG
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Creamy Caramel Marker
Cardstock: Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Melon Mambo, Pink Pirouette Prints DSP
Accessories: Choc Chip Wide Grosgrain, Bouquet Designer Buttons Pink Pirouette Button, Round Tab Punch, Dimensionals, Sponge Daubers, Hemp Twine

Polished Baby

No it's not some strange form of torture for infants it in fact describes 2 cards I made recently. Last month at training our fearless leader Jayne showed us various techniques and ideas using reinkers. One that we learnt was the 'Polished Stone' technique. The way it works is you put rubbing alcohol onto a make up wipe then place a few dots of, your choice in a few colours, reinkers onto the wipe then dab the ink over glossy white cardstock until desired effect or amount of colour has been reached!

I made 2 cards using the same layout using different 'polished stone' colour combinations! Both cards are for babies. The Pink one I made for my fellow demonstrator friend Kylie Swain who gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Emily, last week. The other is for just in case as I have a few expectant friends at the moment.

I really love how this technique gives a card something extra. It was so simple to do and lots of fun as long as you don't mind getting your fingers inky!

Stamp Set: Nursery Necessities, Polka Dot BG
Cardstock: Pink Pirouette, Basic Grey, Regal Rose, Whisper White, Gloss White
Ink: Pink Pirouette, Regal Rose, Basic Grey
Accessories: Regal Rose and Pink Pirouette Reinkers, Mat Pack, Regal Rose Grosgrain, Dimensionals, Scallop Edge Punch, Rubbing Alcohol, Make Up Wipes

Stamp Set: Nursery Necessities, Polka Dot BG
Cardstock: Sage Shadow, Taken with Teal, Basic Grey, Whisper White, White Gloss
Ink: Sage Shadow, Baha Breeze, Taken with Teal, Basic Grey
Accesories: Sage Shadow Baha Breeze and Taken with Teal reinker, Dimensionals, Scallop Edge Punch, Rubbing Alcohol, Make Up Wipes, Baha Breeze Striped Ribbon

Happy Stampin'

Life Oh Life!

Hi all,
I know it's been a while for me between posts! I am so slack! I must admit though it is all due to somethings that happened earlier this week. It has meant I cannot concentrate on Craft and Stampin and must make some decisions and follow up somethings. I will be back on track shortly but need this time to myself. I will assure you that I am fine and will be ok just need to get through what is going on my own way.

For this reason I need to report that I need to reschedule the class I am due to hold this Sunday. I am sorry to anyone who was looking forward to it as I was also. I have just bumped it back a week. So instead of this Sunday 2nd December it will be NEXT Sunday the 9th November at 2pm. I really hope you can join me on this date as I would like to still have lots of money to donate to Cancer Council.

I really thank you all for understanding these unexpected circumstances!
Anyway on a lighter note I do have some craft project photos for you. Here are photo's of my most recent ATC Swaps. They were Christmas themed and I really wanted to do something a little different. I also thought most people would be using Season of Joy so wanted to steer clear of that set. Here is what I came up with. It is a little different but I really like it and hope you do too.
Here is the individual ATC! I used the Faux Metal Technique to make the snow flake pendant and cracked out my jewelry making stuff to attach it to the ribbon. Here is a close up.
Stamp Set: Short and Sweet, Snow Flurries
Ink: Night of Navy, Ballet Blue, Bashful Blue, Versamark
Cardstock: Whisper White, Night of Navy, Ballet Blue
Accessories: Silver Embossing Powder, Ballet Blue Grosgain Ribbon, 3/4" Punch
Techniques: Faux Metal
I won't have a spotlight product this month as things are too crazy at the moment. I do apologise! I will be back when I have time!
Take Care,
Dani

October Spotlight

I know I promised I'd be post yesterday but I've been busy entertaining my mates from Melbourne! Sorry to anyone that may have been hanging out for this months spotlight. I do highly doubt it though!

This months Spotlight is a stamp set. I decided since it's October now is the best time to start thinking about getting prepared for Christmas. So all month I'm going to show you beautiful projects made with the very gorgeous "Season of Joy" Christmas Stamp Set. This set is featured in the lovely Spring Mini Catalogue (pg 22) for only $51.95. It is a really fresh and versatile set and great for quick and easy Christmas cards.
The following card was made taking inspiration from the lovely Michelle Dyson after the card she had us make as a card in a box on the team weekend away. The colours are really lovely and a great combo together. I will use it again!
I made the snowflake embellishment using a technique called Faux Metal. It is made by applying versamark to a piece of cardstock and then embossing silver powder onto it. I then repreted this process until I had about 4 layers thick of the powder. I then stamped the snowflake image into the versamark onto the embossing layers whilst it was still hot to get the imprint of the stamp. I then finished it off with a blue rhinestone brad. Here's a close up... How pretty is it???
Stamp Set: Season of Joy
Cardstock: Whisper White, Soft Sky, Sage Shadow
Ink: Sage Shadow, Versamark
Accessories: Scallop Punch, 1 3/8" and 1 1/2" circle, Silver Embossing Powder, Ice Rhinestone Brads, Mat Pack, Dimensionals
Technique: Faux Metal
Cheers Big Ears!

Kristina Werner Colour Challenge #22

This week I've hardly touched my craft desk as life has been so busy. I've become mum this week with my parents and younger brother in Fiji (lucky ducks) and I've just had stuff to do all week. When I got an early break from work today it felt like I was just itching to get to my table. I checked out that Kristina Werner had a new colour challenge and I thought why not...

These colours are a little out of my comfort zone as are alot of Kristina's as I am NOT a pink person. I like it on cards but I am not really a pink person. I have also never used Bravo Burgundy so I was a little stumped!

I made 2 cards. I had all these ideas and they didn't work together so I made 2! The first I'm not all that fond of but It looks better in the photo, which doesn't always happen. It took a long time to complete and all these things happened whilst creating it that I just got a little fed up... Here's what the result was.

Stamp Set: In the Spotlight, Short & Sweet
Cardstock: Soft Sky, Rose Red, Regal Rose, Whisper White
Ink: Versamark, Rose Red, Regal Rose, Bravo Burgundy
Accessories: White Embossing Powder, Soft Sky Ribbon, Bravo Burgundy Button, Sponges
Technique: Embossing resist

The second card I have changed the colours slightly. If my order had arrived I would have been ok but cos it didn't I had no more soft sky CS and I don't own the ink pad. So I substituted for Bashful Blue and did some watercolouring. Here's what I came up with...

Stamp Set: A little bit of happiness, Polka Dot background
Cardstock:Bashful Blue, Regal Rose, Rose Red, Watercolouring Paper
Ink: Bashful Blue, Regal Rose, Rose Red, Bravo Burgundy
Accessories: Regal Rose wide ribbon, Bashful Blue Brads, Bravo Burgundy button, Aqua Painters, Corner rounder
Technique: Watercolouring

So, which of the 2 do you like better? Let me know by commenting below before 19th September and I will chose a comment at random and send that lucky person a handmade card. Demonstrators included, overseas is fine!

Thanks for looking! Happy Stampin'

Team Weekend away Rap up

Hi everyone,

As noted in my last post I went away for a weekend away with the demonstrator team that I'm apart of, The Inklings, run by the very talented Stampin' Up guru, Jayne Mercer. Jayne organised so much for us and made us a variety of cute treats including cupcakes embellished with Brads and punched flowers. If you want to see some of the great stuff she organised check out her blog here. She really is a talent and did some great stuff for us. So from me, Thanks heaps Jayne.

Ok onto the weekend itself. We arrived Friday night and I got stuck into our cards in boxes. Card in boxes are something that most people on the weekend participated where you made up a card prior to the weekend commencing and made enough for everyone participating (in this case 18) and then you had 17 cards to make up over the course of the weekend. It was fun becuase you got some new ideas, new techniques and got to play with some new products you may not have used before. I got 10 done on the Friday night which is a fairly good whack considering how tired I was. I finally retired to bed at 12:30am! Below is a picture of my card in a box which uses last months spotlight product and my fav technique, Ghosting or versamark resist!

and a close up...

Saturday I got started on the rest of my card in boxes and finished them up. I then started on an album shown to us by Jayne on the Friday night. which kept me entertained. I will show that at a later time due to it being a gift. We also got to do some archery where again our talented leader was dubbed the archery champion of the world. I then played with some more products and attempted some challenges and stayed up to the very late 1:30am.

We then finished off our projects on Sunday including challenges and before heading home. Here is a photo of the Challenge wall that was completed during the weekend. I think it's quiet impressive. There were also prizes given. I will come back and reveal those later on...

Ok the grand rap up... What did I honestly think of the weekend? Well I have devised a list of positives and negatives to share with you all.

POSITIVES

* A weekend full of scrapping, creating, card making and SU! products

* Meeting demonstrators whose blogs I admire

* Getting away from reality and have some well earned ME time

* Going to such a lovely spot

* Not having to cook, clean or leave my desk every 5 minutes. Not even to grab someones product I was borrowing (he he Alana)

* Singing to stupid songs in conversation with Carol and having others join in. Come on everyone... "C is for Cookie, That's good enough for me..." *Tumbleweed blows over* Ok I guess not!

* Eating lots of peanut m&m's and not even caring

* Being able to converse with others about something I love and have them actually interested.

* Lots of cupcakes, chocolate, cookies, and naughty stuff delivered straight to our craft room. I really need to train my boyfriend better!

* Racing Alana on the pirate ship slippery dip and watching it come to a crashing hault... hehe!

* Winning something over the weekend... I NEVER win anything!

Ok so that all sounds good what could be negative??

NEGATIVES

* The extra hours I invented prior to the weekend in between 10pm and 11pm not kicking in so I had extra stamping time when I got my second wind

* The need to sleep. Who really needs sleep? It's only I vital function of living... Damn you sleep!

* Stealing from Ryn - Not having a massage therapist on hand for that much needed rub me down from all that strenuous (ok i can't spell) stamping. And while the request is in for a massage therapist can he be male and topless ready to feed me strawberries?? hehehe

* Lasange being served at lunch. I hate lasange with a passion.

Ok with all that said... I think my weekend was FANTASTIC and wish I could go away on one again next weekend and since thats not going to happen I'll just have to settle for next year. You can come along too next year if you sign up as demonstrator within the next year. So start saving now and join us all next time.

Thanks for reading. I'll be back tomorrow with the new spotlight for the month!

Happy Stampin'

Dani

Spotlight: I cannot resist a white crayon!

As I promised last night. I have been working on some pretty projects using this months product, glossy white cardstock. For this card I used a technique called Crayon Resist. This is one of my favourite techniques to do as it has such a pretty and unpredictable outcome.
How it works is you cut your glossy white cardstock to size. Stamp your image in Stazon (Permanent Ink) being careful not to smudge it as the glossy cardstock can be slippery. Then take a white wax based crayon pressing firmly colour in the parts of your image that you want to remain white. Then take a sponge and sponge on your colour/s OR use a brayer. Once all colour has been added rub the cardstock with a paper towel to get the excess wax off. Then finish your card and Voila!
Stamp Sets: Petal Prints, Occasional Greetings
Cardstock: Orchid Opulence, Basic Black
Ink: Black Stazon, Orchid Opulence, Regal Rose, Purely Pomegrante
Accessories: Black Grosgrain Ribbon, Black Eyelets, Crop a dile, Mat Pack, Paper Piercer, White Crayon
Techniques: Crayon Resist
Alternatively if my quick instructions wasn't enough detail for you there is also a great visual tutorial on splitcoast stampers which can be found here.
Have a lovely weekend.
Dani xoxo

Spotlight on... White Glossy Cardstock

Ok so I'm a day later than promised! Sorry! If you didn't read 2 posts below... WELCOME to my first of many spotlights! This month I am spotlighting one of my favourite products, White Glossy cardstock (106555). You can purchase this fantastic baby for only $9.50 for 25 sheets, That's 38c a sheet! So what can you do with this cheap product??

Believe it or not the glossy card stock is used in a variety of fun and easy techniques which I will display over the next few weeks. It also adds a bit of shiny-ness to a project and is also the best cardstock to use with your brayer or when sponging as you need less ink and it spreads easier!

Here is a card I made using the 'Ghosting' technique, on my glossy cardstock, which I love and used in my second attempt card for my Kristina Werner colour challenge. I will show a tutorial how to use this technique with the added effect of the very cool sponging which I think makes this card so rocking!
I hope over the coming month you come to love glossy white cardstock as much as I do and start to incorporate it into your own projects. Remember it is only $9.50 a pack and anyone who orders it from me during this month will also get free printed tutorial instructions on how to use it in all the techniques shown on my blog during this month. How good is that?
Thanks for looking and have a great rest of your week!
Dani :)
